MICHELLE PHAM – Musings and Designs

Vancouver, Lewiston: on the path of innovation.

Only in Lewiston, ME does it take an hour to get a taxi.

Today my roommate and I were supposed to go on a mini-bonding trip. We finished our classes for the day and I was avidly looking forward to some downtime mid-week. It’s a beautiful day in Lewiston! Skies are blue and it looks like a spring awakening outside covered with a white blanket of snow.

Our trip was planned for 3PM. At 3 we were both ready and we gave the cab company a call. The first company said: “It will take us 45 minutes.” “No thank you.”

The second cab company we called said: “20 minutes, Miss.” “I’ve never had to wait 20 minutes for a cab and I wasn’t about to start waiting.

The next company I called told us: “One hour. We’re currently very behind right now.”

To put some context into this, Lewiston has a population of 41,000~ and is relatively small to maneuver around.
Three weeks ago I was in New York City where ten cabs would be coming in flocks down the same, cramped street. You would think that in a small town, a taxi would be a quick wait, but we thought wrong!

We called back 45 minutes later and it was back to normal again: 10 minutes!

Anyhow, enjoy some photos of Becky (my neighbor) and I on the slopes at Sunday River.

Becky and I!

The crew!

Ski day!
